Applesauce and Kids

October 11, 2024

A couple of years back, I posted an easy crockpot applesauce recipe. Since it’s apple season, I made it yesterday and am reposting today. Children will ask for a second helping, so double the recipe.

Crockpot Applesauce

Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds apples, peeled, cored and sliced (about 6 medium apples–your favorite)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup water

Place the peeled, sliced apples into the crockpot bowl. Sprinkle the sugar and cinnamon over the apples and mix well. Pour the water into the crockpot and place the lid on top. Cook on high for four hours. (Mine took about 2 1/2 hours).

When cooking time is up, remove the lid and mix the apples using a wire whisk, stirring until smooth.

Allow to cool completely then place in a sealed container in the fridge.

Whether you visit an orchard or have your own backyard apple tree, children will have loads of outdoor autumn fun filling a basket with apples.

Enjoy!

Melt one stick butter in the bottom of the pan

Mix together:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 cups milk

Pour over melted butter and top with 3 and 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes +

When cooled, top with whipping cream or Cool whip.

Delicious!

Enjoy August!

VBS Star Craft

June 18, 2024

Vacation Bible School begins this week at my church. Our theme is space. I have the honor of preparing a craft for the children.

I found this cute glow-in-the-dark star project. It doesn’t take much time and the kids will love seeing their project glow at night. Supplies are shown below.

  • Heavy-weight black cardstock
  • putty or glue to adhere stars
  • double-sided tape to adhere memory verse
  • Glow-in-the-dark stars

Set the project in sunlight or under a bright light for an hour. This will give the stars a heavenly glow.

Our Bible verse is taken from Psalm 147:4 (NKJ) He counts the stars and calls them all by name.

I also made cut-out star cookies and when the project is finished, we can all frost a yummy treat.

May all children learn the wonders of our Heavenly Father.

Have a great Vacation Bible School!

Easy Father’s Day Gift

May 30, 2024

I found this neat Father’s Day craft/gift online. It can be tweaked for anyone. We’re making these in our church preschool classroom. On the back, we’re including a Bible verse.

This craft would make a wonderful graduation gift. Just create a tie in your student’s school colors. Add your monetary gift. You can also gift dad with the same.

Supplies needed:

  • small security lined envelopes
  • glue sticks
  • scrapbook paper
  • candy of choice or a monetary gift

Seal the security envelope first. I used a glue stick. Cut across the tip of the envelope to provide an opening. Cut a one-inch slice into the front of the envelope and fold down the collar. I created a sample tie.

Insert item of choice into the envelope.

Happy Father’s Day!
