Wait! Don’t Toss Your Christmas Cards

January 1, 2021

Please hang on to your 2020 Christmas cards. I have some great ideas how they can be put to use.

My cousin, Sally, repurposes them. For the last several years, she sends them back as a postcard with her Christmas message. I love this idea, and it’s so practical. Below is a sample of how she prepares the card. Make sure to check with your post office for the appropriate size.

Christmas cards can be framed, turned into bookmarks, trimmed down to make Christmas gift tags, and ornaments. My friend, Julie, made a Christmas ornament with a canning jar band and lid. I loved this idea too. When I went to purchase bands and lids, I couldn’t find them. Many people gardened this year and canned their harvest. Bands and lids were impossible to locate. But, wait. I came up with an idea. Inside the Grands Cinnamon Rolls is an icing packet. The cover is just the right size for an ornament. Even though it doesn’t have a band, it will work fine. I also think the icing containers would make great circle cookie cutters or storage for tiny items. It’s so much fun to repurpose!

While you take down Christmas decorations, think about the many ways we can repurpose used items.

Happy New Year!

The Christmas Village

December 13, 2020

Many of us have our own Christmas traditions. One of my favorites is The Christmas Village.

When my grandchildren were young, they helped me display the pieces on a snow-covered mat. And pretended they were the actual children in the scene.

Their age-related cousins joined us, and they, too, became the children in the village.

They shopped for toys,

purchased candy,

and attended church to hear the message of Christ’s birth.

Whatever your tradition, let us rejoice about the real reason we celebrate Christmas–the birth of Jesus.

P.S. Don’t forget to sing Silent Night.

Merry Christmas!

Sparkle Christmas Cards

December 2, 2020

Here is a fun, attractive way to dress-up your Christmas cards using glitter glue.

I purchased inexpensive Christmas cards from the Dollar Tree (fourteen per box.) Since I mail and deliver many cards, cost is important to me. The cards were attractive enough, but I thought some sparkle might make them appear even more seasonal.

Just a couple of items are needed to prep your cards.

Paper plate, glitter glue, and a box of cards.

Below is a close-up of the finished piece.

This is an easy craft idea for children or anyone who is sheltering in place with extra time on their hands. It’s easy and sure to brighten the recipient’s day.

I will mail and deliver cards. The ones I deliver will be on top of a box of chocolates or cookies.

Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving Blessings

November 22, 2020

With a few more social distancing restrictions, Thanksgiving will be difficult for those who live alone.

Why not bless someone this year?

Below I’ve listed a few ideas that might just make someone’s day.

  1. Deliver a Thanksgiving meal.
  2. Prepare a plate of desserts, pumpkin bread, or slices of pie.
  3. Thanksgiving card.
  4. Magazines, crosswords, puzzles, or games to keep a lonely person occupied.
  5. Basket of goodies.
  6. Phone call or Skype.
  7. Bouquet of flowers.

There are so many things we can do to help combat loneliness. Let’s try it!

Happy Thanksgiving!
